Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care was founded on two well-known and scientifically accepted truths: that the body is a self-healing and self-regulating organism; and that the nervous system is the body’s master system that controls and coordinates all body functions. With these truths in mind, chiropractic looks at structural misalignments, or “subluxations,” in the spine as the main cause of interference to the nervous system’s ability to control the body.
Chiropractic works to decrease the stress in the body by pinpointing and alleviating joint dysfunction. Without proper movement in the joints, the body is unable to function at optimal levels.
Our office offers a variety of chiropractic techniques that are specific to each patient’s individualized treatment needs. Our office is equipped with the latest digital technology that allows our doctors to pinpoint specific problematic areas.
Dr. Matthew Ferris also offers a unique technique called “NUCCA” that involves a gentle adjustment of the first bone in the spine. This technique is often helpful with headaches of various types, neck pain, and a number of other conditions that may be influenced from pressure at the top of the spinal cord, which contains the nerves that branch off further down the spine and go to mid and lower spine, organs, and tissues.
Subluxation
According to the Association of Chiropractic Colleges, “A subluxation is a complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological articular changes that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health. A subluxation is evaluated, diagnosed, and managed through the use of chiropractic procedures based on the best available rational and empirical evidence.”
How does a subluxation occur?
They are the result of numerous small and large traumas to spine that create damage to the connective tissue causing spinal bones to shift out of their proper alignment. These traumas can be the result of injuries, repetitive stress from work, sports, etc., or some form of chemical, emotional or physical stress. When subluxations occur it can cause irritation or pressure to the nerves exiting out of the spine leading to numerous health disorders. Additionally, the improper alignment of the spinal joints creates body imbalance causing progressive wear and tear on the spine. If left unchecked, this condition could lead to many serious conditions such as osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease.
